My avocation since 2000 has been as a community organizer.

It is work that has given me tremendous satisfaction. I have helped fight irresponsible development in my community. I have organized and empowered residents who were facing displacement and eviction. I have collaborated with neighbors and other organizations to combat dangerous infrastructure. I have led the pack with my boisterous voice to those who temporarily did not have one.

It is not something that you can be trained for. You have to be called to it. You either have it, or you don’t.That is the context of this post.

My comrades and colleagues are upset at the GOP taking shots at us during their prime time speeches. Former New York Governor George Pataki, Former New York City Mayor Rudy Guiliani, and Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska made some would say offensive remarks about our profession.
