I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts, Football Fridays, with Mike Hogan and Chris Schultz. They cover all football, especially the CFL. Mike does the play-by-play for the Toronto Argonauts. Schultzee, as he is affectionately called, is a former Arizona Wildcat, Dallas Cowboy, and Baltimore Stallion, Argo, Alouette. He has some very unique views on the game, and I recommend to check out his work on TSN.
Anyway, the topic of Joe Smith for Charles Roberts trade came up, and Chris mentioned that Charles is just one of those people who always seems miserable.

He just might be one of those people. I don’t know.
I think Charles Roberts might be depressed.
The Titans Vince Young had an incident on Sunday in the game against the Jaguars. The reports state that he did not want to go back in the game after he was booed, and right before he was injured. Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean has an exclusive article with VY’s mother.
Vince Young might be depressed.

Sammie Strougher, Oregon State star went through the battle last season when he lost some close people in his life. Tim Keown of ESPN the Magazine did a nice story about what Sammie went through.

E:60, yes, another ESPN plug, did a story on former TCU star, Tommy Blake who battled depression and social anxiety disorder. Blake went from being a potential first round draft pick, to going undrafted, and from my search, not being in any training camps. Tommy was invited to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mini-camp. Research did not show if he made it to the training camp.

There has been some links to concussions and depressions. A study was conducted between retired NFL Players and concussion showed a correlation that they suffered from depression.
Lastly, the players I mentioned are African-American. Terri M. Williams authored a book titled, “Black Pain
It just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting”. Historical, black people have been reluctant to tackle this issue.

John Howell could provide an example of what football needs to do to handle these situations.

Or it could do what it did to Alonzo Spellman, Darius Underwood, or Barrett Robbins

Is football really ready to tackle this issue?
