NBA Players and Idiots

If these two knuckleheads had jumped to the NBA from high school, I might be a little sympathetic.

Mario Chalmers, Miami Heat

These guys played on a National Championship basketball team. They attended a top level institution of higher learning, Kansas, where I am sure they were rules that are as stringent as the NBA.

And though, I don’t disagree with Coach Self that the all the facts haven’t come out yet, and that we shouldn’t be passing judgment, this is a poor start to your NBA career.

These guys are already in damage control. They are going to have to repair their image.

Could you imagine if they were still in college, how fans at opposing schools would treat them?

There goes Chalmers one shining moment. Now it’s one lighted moment.

I know Arthur has got some explaining to do to his mama. Mrs. Arthur is a devoted mother, who gave up her job in Dallas so that she could support him in college. Here is a clip from a Dallas Morning News article written by Katie Hairpolosus:

The kid with his mom’s name tattooed on his shoulder and his grandmother’s on his wrist, struggled with homesickness his first year in Lawrence, Kan.

“A couple times it got pretty bad,” said Sandra, Arthur’s mother. “He was a little teary-eyed. My mom cried every time he came home. I would go up there and spend a couple days with him. After Christmas, he took it so bad I went and stayed a week with him.”

But Arthur said he’s much more comfortable this season – and he’s flourished. He doesn’t mumble like he used to when talking to the media, and he’s filled out physically.

“He’s not a skinny kid anymore,” said Jazzy Hartwell, Arthur’s longtime Dallas summer league coach, who regularly travels to games with Sandra Arthur. “He’s grown up – being on his own, getting up and going to class.”

How much longer will Arthur attend class? The NBA, a league that drafts on potential, has always been his goal. Nbadraft.net projects him as the 17th pick of the first round.

Hartwell and Sandra Arthur said no decision has been made, and they’ll discuss it with Arthur after the Final Four.

“We’ll have to see and talk to my family,” Darrell Arthur said, “But they want me to stay in school, so I’m just going to do what they tell me to do.”
