NFL Week 1 notes part two

September 8th, 2008 · No Comments

The best player in the NFL is out for the season.

And the Patriots still don’t what to reveal the extent of the injury.

I guess Belechik is really a mad genius. What does it hurt to share the info? How does this impact your preparation against the NY Brett’s?

Patriots have turned into Raiders of the East and yesteryear: they hide all the info. I am so shocked that they have a podcast and internet show.

Goddell needs to step in here and start controlling the propaganda. Brady is a great player and has a huge following. Don’t keep the fans in the dark about this stuff.

Packers won tonight. The huge gust of wind you felt was Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy breathing a sigh of relief. Rogers managed the game well. Packers D did a good job of forcing Jackson to be one dimesnional. As always happens in this league, if you are not accurate as a passer, you seriously limit your chances to be a winning qb in the league. Winning qb is all about accuracy.

Broncos off to a good start in the last game of Week1. Man, Eddie Royal is getting a lot of touches. I like Jay CUtler. I hope the Broncs do well.

Oh, and one last thing to the 3 Mike’s in the Booth: when a QB (Cutler) seeks to only go to one guy (Marshall who is suspended) that is not good. If there are a lot of options, Royal, Stokley, Graham, Sheffler, then it’s harder to design coverages for those guys.

Spread the wealth Jay, especially to Eddie Royal.

Last thing, last year is last year.

If you were bad last year, you likely won’t be bad this year, especially if there were changes in your organization.

If you were good last year, it is highly unlikely that you will be good this year, becasue your team, especially if there wern’t any changes, will get complacent.

For example, pundits were talking about the Jets victory not being much because it came against the Dolphins who won 1 game last season.

So? That was 2007. What does that have to do with 2008?

Or, the Chargers got beat by the Panthers and how this impacts the season, or the Packers finished one game short of the Super Bowl, or the Giants won the Super Bowl, or the Patriots almost finished undefeated….I could go on.

That was last year. There have been changes. Last year is only useful to measure who is good that has remained because of chemistry reasons. More turnover means greater chance for progress, for bad teams. Less turnover, with strategic improvements, are good for teams who were good.

After that, the freaking records don’t mean a thing.

Let it go.
