NFL Week 1 Notes

September 7th, 2008 · No Comments

The NY Bretts won today. They could not have returned to Newark without a win against Tuna and Chad. With the Pats loss of Brady, and I can say that because I’ve had that injury before, the Jets have a chance to go 2-0 and control the AFC East going to San Diego in Week 3.

Memo to Michael Strahan of FOX and Favre’s lucky play on the TD to Chauncey Stuckey: Brett brings confidence to the huddle. More lucky plays get made with great players on the field than with not.

Strahan and the rest of the football world will learn how great a Bill Belichick is as a coach. Brady will be out and its time to coach up Matt Cassell.

Ironically, this is the way Brady got to take over Bledsoe’s job back in 2001.

Jake the Snake is back! What a drive and throw to lead the Cats to victory over the Bolts. Delhomme to Rosario for the score as time expires. The Bears suck so John Fox may have lucked out and his team will be 2-0 when Steve Smith returns from suspension.

Memo to Norv Turner and all coaches with a lead at the end of the game: Blitz the QB at the end of the game by pressure up the middle, especially the immobile ones. Why don’t offensive coordinators roll out their QB’s at the end of games: they will not get pressure in the form of the blitz up the middle.

Lukas Oil Stadium looks beautiful. I wonder how many PSL’s they sold to Colt season ticket holders?

How many times will Tony Dungy allow Devin Hester to be punted and kicked to?

And as soon as I say the Bears suck, Matt Forte runs for over 100 yards against a Bullet Bob Sanders led-D, Lance Briggs makes a few big plays, and the Bears win.

Kudos to Matt Ryan of the Falcons and Joe Flaco of the Ravens. For the mere fact that they were making their first NFL starts on Kickoff Weekend, and under new head coaches, they got the most important thing done: they won. No one, not even the SFP blog gave them a chance to win.

See the impact Ray Rice has on teams? He is a winner! New Rochelle High School, Rutgers, and now the Ravens.

Can Marvin Lewis really stay on as Bengals head coach after performances like this? My goodness, this game was at home.

Oh well, at least Carson Palmer will be happy this week after USC destroys Ohio State.

Seahawks mailed it in today versus the Bills. Maybe Holmgren should not have announced his decision to retire at the end of this season.

Great special teams work by the Bills. One and oh for the Toronto/Buffalo Bills.

Titans Chris Johnson will be the AFC Offensive Rookie of the Year. He’s got a lot of speed and talent. The extent of VY’s injury will determine how many carries he will get.

Jaguars have got to close out this game if they plan to take over the Colts in the division. Got to finish.

Especially, if the rumors are true that Vince Young did not want to re-enter the game prior to his injury.

Steve Jackson got his money and the Rams got shellacked in Philly. Scott Linehan watch starts now.

Looks like the same old Browns. Cowboys dominated the game in Cleveland. When does the Dawg Pound start barking for Quinn?

And who will back up Felix Jones if Marion “the Barbarian” Barber has to miss a few games?

Fast Willie Parker got 3 TDs today. Steelers have nice 1-2 punch with him and rookie Mendenhall. Big Ben is going to be awesome this year.

Kubiak doing a good job with the Texans. Tough to win on the banks of the Three RIvers.

Great win by Saints after all the aftermath with Gustav.

Can we call Alex Smith of the 49ers a bust? Cards beat 49ers to take the lead in the NFC West.
