What a baseball night II

September 27th, 2008 · No Comments

A long time ago, I heard Mike Francessa of WFAN say:

“Momentum in baseball is the next day’s starting pticher.”

I forgot who he attributed it to. Nothing could be more true today. No matter how hot your team is, no matter how good or bad the teams playing are, that day’s starting pitching will most likely determine who wins.

Homefield doesn’t matter. Great fielding defense doesn’t matter.  Batting average, slugging percentage. It seems like that all goes to pot.

The Twins lost to the Royals after beating the ChiSox three straight games to capture the lead in the AL Central.

The Kansas City Royals. The next to last place Royals.

Mind you the game was the Metrodome.

Think that opened the door for the ChiSox? It sure did and the Cleveland baseball club sure shut it.

And that game was at Cellular Field.

What gives?

Thats the beauty of baseball. For all folks will say about how it’s boring, it takes too long, this is the one of the beauty’s of the game.

Unpredictable.  You can’t make this stuff up.

Baseball is like life. You can start out ahead, fight to stay there, and still that might not be enough.

The Marlins show up in Flushing again determined to make it Deja Vu all over again. And by golly they got part 1 of 3 in with a victory in the next to next to last game at Shea.

Now Santana, the ballplayer that he is, has ordered Jerry Manuel to give him the ball so he can get the Mets back into this.

And CC Sabathia is going for the throat on Sunday.

Playoff game at Shea on Monday?
